Digital Patient Working Group

The ERCIM Digital Patient Working Group has been built around the strengths of the participating ERCIM and non-ERCIM institutions and researchers. This working group should contribute significantly to the promotion of Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) research across Europe in synergy with other initiatives (e.g. the Europhysiome coordination action) in order to exploit what has been done so far and avoid duplication of relevant research work.

Participants have expressed strong interest in developing a theoretical framework for integrating mathematical models in different scales (from molecular to tissue/organ). This is a particularly challenging problem for the VPH (Virtual Physiological Human) research.

Possible synergies with other EU initiatives on VPH, especially STEP and @neurIST are being investigated, and cooperation is strongly encouraged.

The participants discussed the possibility that the ERCIM WG could be the basis of a strong consortium for EC proposals, which will be determined in the near future.
